I am sitting here editing images from an event I covered and while I wait for the slideshow to export I wanted to quickly write a post for my friend Janeane of Janeane’s World who just upgraded her camera and is, limke many looking for as much information as she can. I always tell people that when it comes to learning your camera READ YOUR MANUAL FIRST. That way if you have any issues you will know where to start. You will understand to what capacity your machine can be pushed. A camera is a tool just like a car and you need to understand what it can do and NOT do. If you don’t than why even bother.
1. Read your manual
This may sound obvious but a lot of people don’t do it and getting to know how your camera works is essential.
2. Get the right setting
Start off by setting your camera to one of its automatic modes.
Most useful is “Program” or “P” mode or Aperture Priority ‘A’ on digital SLRs.
3. Get closer
Move in as close to the subject(s) as possible.
Unless you’re taking a scenic shot, a lot of background in the
picture is not important.
Many photographers will debate #3 with because we live in very photojournalist world and it’s all about story telling and that fine but sometimes less really is more. You have to be the judge of that.
So to this I will ask if you’ve gotten anything out of these tips feel free to leave a comment below and and post some of your pictures on our educational page www.facebook.com/lattesandlenses can’t wait to see what you shoot
xoxo
