When I was first starting out I had a VERY HARD TIME believing that I could do this. Be a mom, student, and business owner. I often found myself comparing my work to others and wondering how they were doing things and running their businesses. Then I just had to stop. I was driving myself absolutely nuts doing this. It did nothing for my business or self esteem.
I say this to say don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Of course draw inspiration from other
photographers, but do not crush your self esteem by comparing yourself to them.
Not one of them achieved their status’ overnight, and neither will you. It will be a journey. You must work hard and respect yourself during the process. There were countless nights where I finished editing an image, thought to myself I am f#cking amazing! only to see another photographers work pop up in my feed, and then instantly feel like Photo Shit. I had to remind myself that they did not get there overnight. It takes hours and hours of hard work to amass the technical skill of proper in camerawork and editing.
Stay at it, and stay passionate. If anything, the journey should EXCITE you! I am glad that I learned this early on and that I have a really good support team to keep me motivated. I hope you do too. If not feel free to leave me a comment and I will cheer you on! Good Luck…
