Welcome all to the 1st installment of Motherhood!
I have been sitting here surfing the interweb TRYING to figure out what to write as my introduction to this series and I am at a total loss! This has been such a week, potty training the Cristian who is almost 3 and Madeline the Princess who is now going through a period of ‘I can do anything because I’m TALL’. I have NO idea how I keep my sanity around here any more.
I was preparing for a Beach Session than was notified by my client that we will unfortunately have to reschedule because one of the children is sick with hand, foot and mouth disease. Maddie had it when she was about 2 years old and when her fever spiked i had her in the car seat and down to the children’s Hospital of Philadelphia like you wouldn’t believe. Can you say ‘BAT OUTTA HELL’ that was this momma right here!
So after waiting for eternity, (translated to mean 2 hours) we were called into the back they took vitals and magically my child was fine! I don’t know if it was the hospital environment, getting out of the house and clearing her head, or if it was just this ‘cold’ actually running its course but I looked like as donkey’s rear end! See I was a first time mom and had NO IDEA that colds actually did run a course with kids and that all I had to do was give her fluids and let her rest.
Now I say this to say that kids are scary little things and I think that they PLAN on freaking us out from time to time! They don’t say to themselves Let’s see if we can get mommy today, they say HOW can we get mommy!
All you can do is be patient, let them rest and lots of fluid! I am by no stretch of the imagination offering any type of medical advice here but I will say that much of the information you will read is what I would hope you consider commonsense. If you are at a loss and worried that your child/ren have an issue CALL YOUR PEDIATRICIAN! I told mine when we first met that I was a hysterical parent and to expect things like 3 am calls until my children were 18 years olds and I am not joking. Each stage offers different problems and it’s his job to make sure my kids are health! I can feed them and care for them but I can not look inside of them. I take pictures he is the one with the MD after his name!
