I told my friend and business guru Sara Rosenberg about this last week, I’ve been working with Jeff Gibbard on the details for the last 2 years and now I am sharing it with the rest of you. I am holding a photography awards ceremony THIS YEAR. I’m still working on the details but the plans are coming together nicely. I am looking for companies who are willing to sponsor the food, real estate, landscape, and wedding categories.
What I want is a show on the scale of the Oscars but it will probably end up be something a lot less grandiose at its inception. This is a project that has been in the works for 2 years and while there are many reasons that it has not come to fruition the main one is FEAR. And while that fear is still there every day I owe it to myself and every Photographer who has come before me and everyone that will follow me to get past it and put this show on.
When I first started out, one photographer in particular assisted me and was nothing short of amazing. Melissa was an open book. She was not threatened by me she didn’t have the proverbial chip on her shoulder and whatever questions I asked she had an answer for. THIS is the type of community that I want to foster within the photography industry. It’s not always about making money when we can just elevate each other. Melissa never asked me for a dime for the knowledge she bestowed upon me but I know she is a better person for it and I try to pay it forward as often as possible. #EachOneTeachOne
