As a photographer I use just about anything I can get my hands on as a prop. You’ll often see me at Clover Market, Flea markets, country stores, online groups, you name it I’ve shopped it.
But with the summer months upon us and many MANY photographers shooting outdoor sessions, and some of those sessions being shot in the name of honoring our country and military I felt that I had to say something with regards to one of our country’s symbols being used as a prop. The American Flag is not, nor will it ever be PROP!
Understandably you want SOMETHING americana in your image but there is a certain level of respect that must be given to the Flag. It is a National Symbol of Freedom. There are men and women that have laid their lives down for the freedoms that many of us take for granted.

I have included the link for the National Flag Codes as a reference guide. Please think twice when you are out shooting on Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day Veter
