I grew up in a HISPANIC, CATHOLIC, SINGLE PARENT HOUSEHOLD.
Topics like sex, self-love, nudity and positive body image were not discussed! If they were it meant you were having sex regardless of your age or why you brought the topic up. You could have been at Kmart trying on a new pair of jeans and asked if your butt looked too big and my mom would tear into you with a why do you have a boyfriend, geez all I asked was does my butt look big? So I learned early on to curb my tongue around all topics body image. As a result, I developed an eating disorder and battled a wide range of issues as a result. When I was in my early 20’s I walked away from my mom’s house and checked into a treatment center. I had a great therapist and she helped me get shit straight. I recovered from the eating issues and realized that art, photography was my way of healing. I learned that photography was not only about taking pictures of that moment it was also about self-love. connecting with yourself and getting honest with who and what we are. It’s like looking in a mirror and owning the reflection except that we can walk away from a mirror. A photo is forever. It proves we’ve gained 10 pounds or that we’re having a bad day, week or decade! But what a photo DOES NOT SHOW is the effort, the love, the soul of the person in the frame. That’s when I discovered Self Love through Boudoir Photography
Enter Boudoir Photography.
When I started photographing clients for boudoir sessions it was partly because I wanted to just get into the niche, I never really understood the impact it would have on my clients or myself. Until I felt the freedom of it all.
Football moms peeling back the layers and watching the transforming into the Goddesses they really are. Entrepreneurs and work from home women who “never thought they could something like that” are now baring it all just to declare to themselves they are worthy, they are beautiful and they haven’t lost that side of themselves.
The concept of Self Love and Boudoir Photography is just that, a concept. It’s a way of reconnecting with self via an artistic medium. Owning your beauty and if you want, sharing it with the world as you know it. Many people are not accepting of this idea while others love it.
It allows you to touch, feel and embrace your body in a way that no one else can. Once you become comfortable with your curves and how your body feels your confidence level rises and the chances of you questioning your body image are lowered, There is no longer a question of no good enough because you are now motivated by wanting the best for yourself.
Photography gives you that gift, the gift of self-love, confidence and the ability to see you as no one else could.
