For Christmas I asked my husband for a Fitbit I did the research on the different models and quite honestly I was VERY overwhelmed, partly because I’m not used to asking for gifts and I wasn’t sure what I wanted aside from step tracking. My husband DID NOT disappoint. He ended up getting me the Fitbit Versa. I just want to say that I LOVE THIS THING!

I wear my fitbit every day and from a business point of view, I LOVE IT. The ability to track my progress and see what’s working and what isn’t. Every week I receive an email with my stats so I can change or make adjustments. The first week my steps hit 5K I was over the moon. It not only gave me a baseline, something to work towards, but it also made me more mindful of my actions. See in my line of business I tend to spend a lot of time sitting behind a desk. But my fitbit has this great feature that reminds me to MOVE every hour and also informs me of the number of steps I have left to take in that hour!
I start my day with tracking by my water intake, I keep a bottle of H2O on my nightstand so after brushing my teeth I chug a 20oz and log it in my Fitbit. Then I start to get the kids ready for school and you’d be surprised at how many steps you log looking for a uniform belt and socks! Once the kids are on the bus I take my dog for a 20-minute walk around the hood and we are both set for the morning. I shower, eat, and caffeinate then start my day at the desk. I may or may not hit the gym depending on the day but on gym days I use the Starbuck app on my friendly Fitbit to pay for my double tall vanilla latte! See the fitbit is handy all around. I also love that I can respond to calls with a simple swipe.
Now you might be asking if there’s anything I DON’T like about the Fitbit, well yes. I do think it is sensitive to my hand movement, for example, it will log ‘steps’ just because I’m moving my arms. In the settings, you can let it know which hand you are wearing it on and I wear it on my non-dominate hand But I’m ok if th counter is off a few ticks because my overall goal is not so much accuracy but that I move every single day, have a tool that helps me stay accountable to myself and my overall, goal to get and stay fit, a fitness tracker that fits my fashion style and taste, and one that has the ease of seeing my history in a way that works for me. I like statistics and when I can download my numbers into a spreadsheet and compare these numbers week to week I get chills. It’s the business person in me.
As business owners, many of us tend to prioritize so many other things and fitness gets weaved into our schedules when we have free time. But here’s the thing I’ve learned from so many of my clients, you can’t wait to get fit. I cover a lot of events, from doctors and lawyer to the monthly networking event. And there really are patterns to the most successful people. They watch what they eat and drink, they unplug in social settings, they are present in their lives and the lives of those around them. Yes, they MAY work 60-80 hour weeks but when are with people they ARE WITH PEOPLE and you’ll see their phones out to share contact information. The Business of Fitness is a whole body concept and one that they take pride in. If you are going to start, start small. That’s why I love my Fitbit because of the hourly prompts to get up and move, I do, I get out of my office and walk the dog, grab a glass of water, do a load of laundry. Something…ANYTHING it all starts with action.
