I have heard and seen it all…MadCrisis, MadChristmas, MadCrix. Mad Chris, Mad Crisis…Then the questions came…why are you Mad at Chris? And who’s Chris?
The name and SPELLING of my business is MadCris Images. It was created by combining the names of my children Madeline and Cristian. Before becoming a professional photographer I was a non-profit housing and credit counselor. .. Now picture this it’s 2010 , I am sitting in a high back leather chair at my cherry wood desk in my corner office in a center city building, I had some down time between clients which was rear in the non-profit world that serviced foreclosure clients. I was in the VERY beginning stages of starting a business, my free time was spend asking google ‘how to start a business’ then not believing what I found on the internet. I knew that I had to NAME my business, I KNEW I didn’t want my business to be called Wanda Thomas Photography, Photography by Wanda or have any variation of my name in it. On the brown cork board to my right was the standard office flair, from a list of extensions to ‘important people’ short cut keys and rules that no one outside of the office should ever see. At the bottom were 2 pictures of my kids, I smiled closed my eyes and said a quick prayer, Lord if this business is something you want to pursue, please guide me and give me a name with a purpose for it. I opened my eyes and looked back at those same pictures of my kids, and had a renew spirit. And that was the day MADCRIS IMAGES was born. See when I was in the hospital with giving birth the hospital didn’t have a newborn photographer, my husband said here’s your camera you have 4 days to take pictures so I did. I started this business for a few reasons:
- To provide quality portraits for families.
- To leave a legacy for my children
- To show my children that you CAN be an artist and make a living.
- To wake up every day and LOVE what I do.
- To make money and live the type life that I have dreamed of.
Now I will be very truthful when I say I have gone back and forth with the idea of changing the name of my business from MadCris Images to Wanda Thomas Photography, in fact I have a live site under that URL. www.wandathomasphotography.com but I have to look at all of the reasons WHY I choose THIS particular name for my business. And what message does that send to my kids and ME if I change for other people. Someone said to me that we teach people how to teach us and by changing my Business Name I have taugh people that no paying attention to one of the most important factors in my business…THE NAME means not paying attention to other details that I offer. That is not how I want to run this business. So for now we stay MadCris Images.
I asked a few other blogger friends about their blog site names and this is what they shared:
Julia Lombardi Hunter: When my son was 6 weeks old my husband came home from work and wanted to know what was for dinner and my son was crying, the dog was barking. And I thought everyone has someone to “whine” to but me. And I thought “There’s No Wine in Mom” like there is no I in team. I decided I needed a place to whine and since I love wine I made it a play on words. www.wineinmom.com
Janeane Davis: My blog name is Janeane’s World. I named it that because I have always believed our world is what we make it. I wanted to always remember that I control my destiny http://janeanesworld.com/
Jennifer Gaffney changed her blog site name from Gaffney Gab’s this and this is her story – because of the obvious – my last name is Gaffney and I like to gab. But then when I decided to take on my best friend as a co-contributor, it didn’t make sense to me to keep the name, thus Friendspired was born.
Tina Creaney Seitzinger says she: was throwing out a bunch of names but nothing seemed to excite me. One day while chatting with my mom she said “you are living a life without pink” and for some reason that statement hit me…and that was how I got my name www.lifewithoutpink.com
Feel free to check out there sites and see what they are up to.
