Nicetown-Tioga Shooting

events

Wednesday August 14 2019 there was another shooting in the City of Philadelphia. This time it was 3 blocks from my home.  The home where I live with my husband and 2 children.  Yes it was scary.  How do I feel about guns,  that’s not a view I care to share.  We knew living in this part of the City was going to come with some setbacks,  just as living in the suburbs comes with the risk of break-in to your cars and home.  We can be vigilant on our efforts to protect and fight against guns but its not the guns it the feelings of not enough, feelings of loss of control, healing of hate and so on that spark the desire to want to use guns. So when deal with the root causes we have gun control.

Below are some photos I took about 24 minutes after police started racing past my house. People are out watching. Buses are stopped. Cops from EVERYWHERE even college campus’! People, strangers are consoling each other because even for North Philadelphia this is NOT a common occurrence. This neighborhood is in face on the rise and changing. Home are being rehabbed and new families are coming in. Don’t believe this is something that happens everyday. IT’S NOT!
