While I’ve always believed in having multiple streams of income, owning my own business, hosting workshops and creating learning material is what makes me THRIVE. I love the feeling of helping people grow and understand how to use photography within their business. With the rise of Instagram and the ability to share more Pretty Photos online the ability to help people gain a better understanding of mobile AND regular photography is an exciting time.
That being said, in February when I sat down to write my birthday goals I had to take a serious look at what I wanted my new year to look and FEEL like…to me and for me. I knew I was going to move out of my current studio space to a place bigger and more accessible to the client base I’ve always wanted to serve. When I opened my studio we, as a family had a nice saving account and things were going well. And while they still are I knew I wanted and needed to add another source of income before things really hit the financial roof. So in looking at things I knew my number one priority outside of the care of my kids was to be able to provide financially for them AS WELL as my business. I had to take a hard look at every area of my life ask myself what did that mean, where these goals realistic and if so how would I make it work??? The simple answer was it meant upping my money goal and income. But HOW was the question.
I looked at my numbers and that’s when it became clear to me that the fastest way to increase my income would be to return to the corporate world. See I look at it like this…The frequency of a regular paycheck coupled with the income I receive from owning my own business will help reach the savings goal I want to achieve. In addition to the income goals I have, my children are older now and while they still need me they are in school full time and able to assist with household chores thereby reducing some of my mom duties. I have more time to do some of the things I’ve been wanting to do such as focus on selfcare and hobbies. As a photographer many of my clients request evening and weekend sessions. With the availability of an automated workflow I am able to keep my business running while still having my finger on the pulse of things.
I also know what my personality type is and I need regular interaction with other people and self employment is and can be lonely alot of the times.
Am I happy with this decision, honestly I have mixed blessings about it. I’ve been a self employed work from home wife and mom and this decision pushes me out of my comfort zone but if I want to reach ANY GOAL I know I need to stretch and grow. This IS what I asked for and I can’t be upset when God gives me what I’ve asked for.
So at the end of the day I am looking forward to this new journey and what it holds for me, my family and business. This is something that I knew I was going to do I just needed to get to a point where I felt things were right as well as find a job that fit the schedule I wanted based on what my goals were.
